Patsy’s talk (Tuesday 3rd at 8pm) will deal mainly with anomalies which he has discovered when comparing the church registers and the civil registers. He will also outline information which he has discovered about interesting, and prominent, families from the area. This material really goes to the core of everything that local history and local genealogy should encompass. The event will be of huge interest to anyone with Ballinascreen ancestry and there will be plenty of opportunity for audience participation, questions and debate.

Following the very successful launch of the society’s latest books in early October, Ballinascreen Historical Society’s next monthly meeting will take place on Tuesday 3rd November. On this occasion the focus will be on the Ballinascreen parish’s church records, with particular attention being given to the baptisms from 1864 to 1880. These Catholic registers relate to the whole of the parish and, for quite a while, the Society chairman, Patsy McShane, has been transcribing and studying them. He has transcribed all of these records – approximately 150 per year – and there are even a few marriage records appended!
