This trip (54 seats maximum) is certain to be popular with BHS members and friends alike. Soon after members have received their priority booking details, the outing will be given wider publicity, so an immediate response is encouraged.

Bookings will be taken strictly in the order that they are received.

Booking fee - £25 per person (includes coach, tour guide, etc.)

Departure from St. Colm’s High School, Draperstown at 9.00 am sharp. Please aim to be there by 8.50am.

Free time to enjoy our packed lunch in Crossmaglen, or O’Fiaich Centre in Cullyhanna

Dinner 6.00 pm, return to Draperstown 8.30 pm approx.

Our guide, who will accompany us throughout the day, will lead us on a tour of the borderland of South Armagh travelling through 6000 years of history. We will be visiting the Quaker village of Bessbrook, Derrymore House (Act of Union), Ballykeel Portal Tomb, Creggan Graveyard, Annaghmare Court Tomb, Crossmaglen, Moyry Castle and Killeavy Old Churches.

Una Walsh is an historian, storyteller, protector of townlands, community activist and Mullaghbane mother-of-seven. She is a custodian of the Irish oral tradition – stories which were unwritten but passed on by bardic poets and later by seanchais, then codified, tweaked and written down by early Irish monks. The landscape, language, lyrics and literature are all entwined. Una is a woman who breathes in South Armagh’s rich cultural heritage, song, music and mysticism. “Every hole in the ditch carries with it a story and that is why townland names are so important and need to be preserved”.

At Creggan Church of Ireland church and graveyard near Crossmaglen the whole history of Ulster and its conflicts could be told. Planter and Gael are buried side by side at peace – enmities ended for eternity. Creggan will be just one of the fascinating sites we will visit on this wonderful day of exploration.
